For the start of this project I chose two rocks. One a translusant pale pink slab and one was this dark green translusiant slab At first look I knew what the pink one was, and after conferming it with my teacher we concluded that it was indeed Rose Quartz. As for the other rock, I looked up a multitude of green rocks, from green soapstone to green marble, none of them matched the discription. I couldn't figure it out, it was only until the next day that my teacher told me that the rock was jade. It didn't even cross my mind that it could have been jade.
Jade: This rock is found in a number of countrys and in all continents except Antartica. It is made up of Nephrite and Jadeite and they are a composition of chains of silicon and oxygen atoms. The reason my piece of jade is green is because it has traces of iron in it. Jade can come in colors as pink. black, gold, violet, white, grey and many others. Jade forms where two tectonic plates meet and there's a lot of pressure under the earth. The pressure compresses a rock called pyroxene and transforms it into crystals of jade. Jade traces back to 7000 years ago and to the Chineese Dynasty. It was considered a royal rock and still to this day artists in China use jade to make sculptures and jewelry from the Stone Age right up to modern times. Jade is a healing stone of serenity.
Rose Quarts: Rose quartz is a piece of quartz that appears pink, the pink coloring comes from traces of titanium and iron or other small traces of other elements. The most common type of rose quartz in the quartz family that can be found is a sylicone dyoxide crystal. The solid rock is made up of many tiny prismatic crystals. Rose quartz is told to be one of many healing stones, its qualities are to radiate love, tenderness and sensuality. Hm. Of course this can be just superstision but hey... it might work. (What ever floats your boats goats) According to research it can help prevent insomnia, help PTSD (Post Tramatic Stress Disorder), and calms and reassures the Soul. Along with helping with insomnia it's told to help prevent night terrors which is really a problem for some people with PTSD. I'd like to test this theory of healing crystals and find one that suits me. Here is the website where I found the healing properties of Rose Quartz
